Crossing Over

Joshua 3: 3, 4-7 

There is always a moment of crossing over in our lives. These are times where we have to make critical choices and decisions. These are moments we must be true to our selves, at times we have to lose the friends we treasure and love most. Crossing over demands us to leave our comfort zones and venture into new and unknown things. What is crossing over? Is basically a time to move on and leave the past behind. Is a season of new beginnings and moment of realizing your destiny. It is a time of losing some good things for the sake of the BEST things. 


Taking a closer look at the nation of Israel, God calls one man by the name of Abram to leave his father behind to a place God has destined for him. He had to make a very hard choice of leaving his father into the unknown world. Out of Abraham the 12 tribes are born through his grandson Jacob.

The twelve become a nation in a foreign land, through the leadership of one man they are led into a promised land. The first crossing over begins with Moses. They had to crossover the red sea. This was not an easy time for Moses and the nation of Israel. The army of the Egyptian is advancing behind them, ahead of them is the red sea, this was an impossible mission. However, they had to crossover to the other side of the sea. Take a journey with me and look at what happened to the second crossing over of this nation and learn what God can do in our lives if we only follow His Word.      

1.     The Ark of the Covenant

The Ark was always the symbol of the presence of the LORD God.  As long as the Ark was among Israel they were sure of God’s presence.  In our days God’s presence is shown by the Holy Spirit of the God Father.  Now the children of Israel knew the move of God in their lives which was seen through the pillar of cloud and fire. Later the move of God was seen in their lives through the Ark. When the Ark is positioned at the centre of the camp, Israel know is time to camp and when they are marching, the Ark is in the middle of the procession.

However, something unusual happens when Joshua orders the carrying of the Ark by the Priests who are Levites. You see when time to cross over is at hand, the carrying of the Ark is very crucial and who carries the Ark matters most to God. The Kohathites are the men who carry the Ark when things are normal in Israel, however this time it was a marking of something greater in Israel, hence the Priest has to carry the Ark. (Numbers 4: 15, I Kings 8:3-6)

Therefore, when the Spirit of the LORD begins to work and show sign that is time to cross over; He must get a ready church.

2.     We must see the Ark (verse 4)

They only know where to go as long as they can see the Ark.  The moment we see the Ark’s position and direction is the time we know which way to go. Any church that moves without hearing from God is bound to fail and any church that fails to move when God’s presence is moving is bound to go into circles. We must be a church that recognises the move of the Holy Spirit of God and the move of His presence.  

We can only be able to realise our destiny and live our purpose and vision when we move with the Holy Spirit of God.

KEEP a DISTANCE- Israel had to keep a distance for them to see the move and the position of the Ark. Never be too familiar with His presence, even when He moves we may fail to notice His move.

3.     God will exalt you (verse 7&10)

 When time for crossing over, God will exalt you among your people, peers and those who disregard you. God exalt people who are willing to follow the move of His presence. The moment we position ourselves to move, the moment our minds get ready to cross over; God will exalt us.

Let me remind the church once again about the prophecy that was declared over this church. It was declared that this church is the gate way into Cape Town and Africa. God has exalted this church, it is up to the church to get itself ready to cross over and be that which we are called to be. 

4.     The Ark ahead (verse 11)

When it was time to cross over the Ark had to go ahead of the people into the Jordan before the people. It is was for Israel to take a step forward and follow the Ark. It takes courageous and purposeful people to follow the presence of God.

Victorious Life

We all desire to live a victorious life at certain stage, we all desire to be successful in our day to day living. Victory means progress in many people's lives and the moment people do not experience victory they feel like they have failed. However, the question is how do we succeed in life. In this article we will look at things we need to consider in order to succeed or live a victorious life.

What does it take to live a victorious life?

1. Faith

Faith is the complete trust in God that He will take care of your life and He will lead your life daily. This does not depend on how you feel and how other people feel about your situation or circumstances of life. Feelings are based on moods and the five senses of how we feel, however faith works beyond how does one feel. Onne Vegter says "In the modern world, many things work with passwords. To switch on a computer, you need a password. To draw money from the bank or teller machine you need a password." Faith is the password for a successful Christian life and living a victorious life. Faith is like a key you can use to open other closed doors in your life - it is the Master key.

There are times in our lives where you do not use any key, but a master key. Especially when times are hard, complicated and tough moments of our lives. When things seems to be falling apart and when friends seems do be dwindling in numbers. The master key FAITH works wonders in these seasons.
"Now faith is the substance of things hped for,the evidence of things not seen" Heb 11:1 (KJV)


2. Positive Thinking

There is nothing as discouraging and disheartening as people who sit and dwell on negative thinking. These people they are never solution orientated, they are constantly focused on their problems. You initiate a project the first thing they think about is how impossible it is to complete the project, where are you going to get money to run the project. They are never thinking solutions.

You want to be a winner in life, you desire to live a victorious life, teach and discipline your mind to think positively. One of the things can help us to keep thinking positively is the Word of God. The world is looking for men and women who think positively, who will remain solution orientated regardless how hopeless the circumstances can be and regardless of what people are saying about the current bad situations we are living in. Positive thinkers they have the attitude of; it is possible and it can be done. Even if it takes a long time to accomplish it all needs commitment till the matter is done.

3. Discipline your mind

The scriptures says "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
Romans 12:2.

Living a victorious life does not only depend of FAITH and positive thinking, however it needs these two important things: RENEWAL and TRANSFORMATION of mind. As Christians, victorious life becomes a day to day life once there is a daily renewal of thinking. This simply means we allow the WORD of God to order our steps and we allow His word to saturates our minds. The moment the word of God fills our minds transformation will take place without any hassle. This means a change of mind set. We do not think like victims but like victors, we do not behave like weaklings but warriors.

Disciplining one's mind is not easy as one can think or imagine. It takes courage and conviction about things you want to change in your life. It takes hard work and relying upon the word of God that will results in transformation. Even when being enticed by things of the world, you still commit your self to that which you want to achieve. Discipline is not for the fainthearted, but for the champions and warriors of there own destiny.

4. Pray & God's word

One cannot deny that we need God in our day to day life, this is the truth that the world don't want to hear. We think we can do better in life without prayer and the Word of God. The moment we think we can do that we are simply saying to God we can actually manage without you. The truth need to be told, the moment we stopped morning prayers in our schools we have witnessed bad and filthy things done in our schools. This is because we have taken God out of our schools.

Prayer is just another key to unlock the blessings and the success of our lives. When we begin to call on God through pray, we are basically asking heaven to intervene on the earthly matters we are struggling with on daily basis. Prayer is a sign of depended upon God, that without Him we know that we cannot make it, we need Him to be successful and victorious in our lives.

We cannot talk about victory unless there a battle to fight. We can then only win our battles and wars through the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. We therefore, need His word on daily basis in order to live a victorious life. The word of God is our shield and fortress. Victorious life is feasible through the presence of the active word and the Rhema word of God. We need the proceeding word of God to live victoriously, we must depend upon the now word of God.

Words of Encouragement

“When the Enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him" Isaiah 59:19

Firstly, can we try to define or understand what we mean by the standard? A Standard is a benchmark, a level or degree. In this lesson we learn that when the enemy (Satan) attacks you, he does that based on the normal or ordinary standard you have set for your self. However when he comes to attack you, the Spirit of the living God lifts up the benchmark. That simply means things will not be normal and ordinary any more. The LORD turns your benchmark into an extraordinary level where your enemy cannot reach you.

Let us see at what God did for the ordinary men of the old who were just like you and me. Men like Joesph, Moses, Elijah and so forth. You will notice that they had challenges like you and me, they had same weakness like all of us. But because they trusted in God, the LORD lifted up the standard in their lives, they were ordinary men, however when God came their way He turned them into extraordinary men. Therefore when the LORD lift up the standard things in your life will never be the same, ordinary, usual and of average life style, they become extraordinary, that's when there is a lifting up of the standard in your life.

There are times in our lives when the enemy comes in like a flood.
These are times when unrighteousness seems to overpower the righteousness.
These are times when evil seems to be in abundance.
These are moments in our lives when we are cast down by the issues of life itself.
There are moments when things seem to be falling apart.
There are times when the unrighteous seems to be flourishing and everything is well with them.


Let us look from the examples of men of God who were in the same situations where the enemy came like a flood in their lives.

1. It took Joseph to be cast into the pit, sold out to the Amelikites and put into prison in Egypt for standing up for righteousness. A man, who was a dreamer, cast down in the pit by his own brothers and cast down into prison for no reasonable reasons, God came for him and the Spirit of the Lord raised the standard. From the pit of hatred and from the prison of righteousness God lifted him to be a prime minister over Egypt. It was trough Joseph’s faithfulness that kept him going even when things around him demanded him to be unfaithful.
   Stay faithful at all times and see the LORD raising up the standard when everyone has given up on you and neglected you.
2. When Pharaoh planned evil against the children of Israel, God raised the standard through the hand of Moses. A boy who grew up in luxurious place of Pharaoh; God chose him to deliver Israel out of Egypt. When Pharaoh came with a evil plan of killing every Hebrew born baby God chooses Pharaoh’s daughter to raise up Moses who in later stage delivers Israel of Egypt.
3. When sin, unrighteousness and evil abound in Israel; the kings and the people has forsaken God, He raised up the standard though the life of Elijah. The worship of Baal has come to its climax; Ahab has forsaken the God of Israel. God lifted up the standard through the life of Elijah. He calls all the 400 prophets of Baal to the mountain to showcase the greatness of God. They all had to make a burnt sacrifice, however; Elijah first builds the altar and calls on the name of the LORD and fire came and consumed the sacrifice and the water that was in the sacrifice.
4. When poverty, hunger and famine hit the land because God through the words of Elijah has shut the heavens. He uses the ravens and the poor widow when the enemy came in like a flood.

When does God raise the standard?

• It’s when we go through tough and rough times in our lives that the Spirit of the LORD will lift up the standard in our lives.
• It’s when the devil brings all forms of evil and disasters in our lives that the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up the standard.
• It’s only when the issues of life throw us with huge punches against us and blow us with all challenges that the LORD will lift up the standard.
• It’s those times when we feel we are at the urge of victory and nothing comes up, when we feel like there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel yet it seems like the tunnel never comes to an end.
• Are those times when you are expectant of breakthrough in your life and seems nothing is coming loose.
• When you are like Israel that is ready to possess the land and yet among you there are ten spies who just never see the possibility of that.
• It is when people disappoint you, deserts you while you need them most. When friends are few, when friends find reason to walk away from you.

Never lose hope, never lose courage, never lose faith in God when life hits you and put you down, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up the standard.
